Anthony is a local painter who loves the landscape of the Wye Valley in particular, as have many Romantics before him. He studied Art in Cardiff(Howard Gardens). He also attained an M.A in Theology and Religious Studies and now works for a Gloucestershire University in a creative capacity. He has been painting for 20 years. His next exhibition will be from JULY 12th - 19th at The Old Station Tintern. See our events page for details. The wooded landscape of the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley offers this talented painter a chance to "paint from within and to explore the spaces within the deep shadows and over hanging trees" His paintings expose the sense of claustrophobic darkness saved by light, the sense of movement in the stillness, trees as objects in space, solitary amongst the dense overgrowth and of ever changing colour, from muted to high contrast. Anthony works in acrylics- he says "in a realistic contemporary manner influenced by the French painters of the Barbizon school and by the impressionists". The majority of his work is focused on the local environment and landmarks found in his inspiring surroundings of the Wye Valley. He is also developing and experimenting with more abstract work based on his study of design and colour of pre-renaissance Icons.
