A talented, energetic, professional photographer and writer, Chris worked in London and S.E. for many years working in corporate publicity. Now living in Longhope, his fascination for the history of the Forest led him to document the area's industrial history. He held a successful Exhibition at The Guildhall Gloucester to launch his first book "Work in the Woods". He set up The Tanners Yard Press a few years ago to manange the publication side of his work.Similar books then followed:- "Blaenavon World Heritage Site" "A Portrait of Dean", "A Portrait of Severn." Always enthusiastic for his subject, Chris then went on to publish books on the engineers Brunel and Telford. Recently Chris launched "Dean's Big Oaks" a well researched photographic testimony to our Queen of the Forests. Just out "Thomas Telford's Scotland" and "Searching for Sir Humphrey and other tales of the Thames. Books may be ordered from Chris at Tanners Yard Press. Chris says that "Long before digital made experimental technique easily accessible, I put a lot of effort into alternative qualities. I was shooting black & white then adding colour by toning and filtering. This allowed the strength of the mono image to be combined with controlled colour." Whilst allowing himself free rein in his personal work all the photography in his books is presented in a conventional way. Chris believes that photographs often contain too much information, his digital techniques often reduce tones and detail to tell the story in a simple graphic way, producing a distillation that can resemble silk screen prints. These techniques he reserves for his framed prints. He often exhibits a large and diverse selection of prints and you are welcome to visit his studio - ring him or email first.
