Alison and Chris of Chrysalis Glass are a successful Glass Design Duo making contemporary fused glass art. Their fresh and dynamic style is inspired by the endless possibilities of light, reflection, colour and form. Their range includes jewellery and interior decorative pieces such as plates, bowls, wall art, platters etc. In order to create that perfect piece to match the interior of your home or for that special gift, Alison and Chris will work with you on ideas and show you samples.
"There are endless possibilities of colour and design and often unexpected results" says Alison. "The process of designing each piece using specialist fusing glass is inspiring and unpredicatble! Once I have cut and shaped each piece I layer it. At this stage I can use a variety of coloured materials like paper, metallics etc. between the layers. I then fire the pieces in my kiln at a temperature in excess of 800C. This is the most tense time and the most exciting! I never quite know what results will come out. The glass pieces are then allowed to cool slowly. This prevents thermal shock from breaking the glass. Some pieces are refired after using moulds which form bowls and plates. Each firing takes a minimum of 12 hours. I then hand polish my designs or they are ground." The glass is both individual and affordable, visits to their studio welcomed by appointment.
