David has been working as an illustrator for over 20 years, he welcomes visits to his studio in the pretty & ancient market town of Newent, home of the famous "Onion Fayre". Known for his book jacket illustration, David is continually developing his style and understanding of pen and ink drawings. Apart from illustration, He introduced water colour paintings to his portfolio recently. Ask him about his small informal Drawing classes. He recently showed at Wilton Castle Fine Art weekend and took a workshop at the Dean heritage Museum for October's BIG DRAW. David Brindley has a delightful series of limited edition prints/drawings and paintings depicting the picturesque corners of Newent, West Midland and Gloucestershire all beautifully reproduced as a series of Greetings Cards. His finely detailed illustrations cover the Forest of Dean, Ross on Wye, Herefordshire and surrounding counties. Architectural subjects are a speciality but all non-figurative work is undertaken. David's illustrative style of drawing has the look of an engraving with the line work executed to represent the texture of foliage, stonework or sky. Some of the illustrations are drawn on to a hot pressed water colour paper so that when complete the drawing can be complemented by a pale tint or worked into with washes of colour. The pen line, however remains visible and is the foundation of the illustration. Although the majority of David's work involves detailed studies, many works begin as rough sketches and so he is equally at home representing subjects as a simple outline. Call David if you would like to join his small, informal drawing and water colour classes. David's client base extends from American and UK corporations, book publishers and advertising agencies to individual commissions, a speciality are house portraits.
