Jenny Westbrook is a B.A. Hons Fine Art Painting Degree and works intuitively. She says she "feels the picture paints itself, giving life to hybrid forms inhabiting inner landscapes." Her complex and playful work can be figurative or decorative, sublime or ironic and "dark".
Jenny's next exhibition is with Richard Straley at The Sundial Theatre Cirencester College. Stroud Road. November 12th - January 14th 2010.
Her work often follows an autobigraphical theme givng voice to emotional and psychological states. Jenny's intense decorative work blazes with colour, with inventiveness and a sense of other worlds. She likes to produce inner landscapes where boundaries blur, metamorphosis...landscape or clothing? jewellery or flowers? skin or fur? Her pictures grow onto the surface of her canvas from her intitial mark, exploratory shapes growing as she paints is part of the tension. Her paintings attempt to deal with themes such as femininity and spirituality. Jenny says" I don't think of my work as fantasy it is just another reality. My work is open to interpretation and the viewer must reach their own conclusions". Her work may appear bright, joyous, but they also hold a distinct edge - watch out for those unexpected dark symbols. Certainly thought provoking and painterly, this artist values invention and discovery, she welcomes visits to her studio.
