Inspired as a youth by a course run by a cabinet maker in Sherwood Forest, John changed career and life style from being a Chartered Surveyor to a Furniture designer- maker. He trained in Oxford and then Hay on Wye. Obviously liking wooded territory, in 1977 he moved from Sherwood Forest to a beautiful part of the Forest of Dean. His workshop has beautiful views and is well worth a visit. John makes an excellent range of bespoke furniture from small boxes to whole room schemes. Tables, chairs, cupboards, desks, folding stools, functional beautiful designs. A very experienced carpenter and designer, he likes to work with various timbers, native hardwoods, Forest oak, fruit woods especially and is expert in his knowledge. John loves working with different grains and using more than one sort of wood within a piece of furniture.
John recently showed a chair that was succesfully auctioned at the International Chair Symposium at Westonbirt, Glos.
Happy to work with clients to ensure involvement and agree design & budget whether for a design for a desk or for kitchen or bedroom fitted furniture.
Likes to use mostly local timber and range of Mature hardwoods. Likes to experiment with exotics.
