Richard's main career was as a professional lecturer in the arts, he taught at Gloucester but always continued to paint. He is an ardent philospoher and at one with Nature. Will be Exhibiting with Jenny Westbrook at The Sundial Thatre Gallery. Cirencester College. Stroud Road. Cirencester 12 Novemebr - January 14th 2010.
His main works are watercolour landscapes characterised by semi-abstract imagery and a rich, vibrant use of colour and texture. He has a strong sense of the relationship between the harmony in music to that found in the natural landscape. He also experiments with pigments, gold and copper leaf and with mixtures of water, following the traditions of the ancient Chinese masters. Richard says "the place where I paint is very important to me, it is mysterious and magical. " He brings together a complex tangle of ideas and feelings gathered from the landscapes he studies, he "tries to bring them into the light". Richard feels a deep spiritual message and inspiration in the passing of the seasons, cyclical growth and Life's never ending journey. His paintings are very experimental journeys almost expressions of meditation.
