Susan has been painting for over thirty years and has gained experience and learning from a great variety of sources. You can see a selection of her work at The Brockweir Shop/Gallery Glos. from 25th February to 7th April 2008. Susan was the main organiser for the Wye Valley Art Societys' "Wye Tour Exhibition", an open exhibition based on a re-interpretation of twelve of the sites along the Wye. This was a two day boat trip down the River Wye from Ross to Chepstow made popular by artists and writers taking part in the 18th & 19th Century Wye Tour. This proved so popular that the area is now considered the birthplace of British tourism. Susan showed five paintings in this wonderful touring exhibition through 2006. One of her paintings received a prize. Her book "Landscapes of the Wye Tour" published in April 2008, covers the history of the Tour and the Picturesque. It is beautifully illustrated with pictures from the Exhibition. Early Wye Tourists give fascinating descriptions of the landscapes they saw. Her greatest pleasure has always been to search for patterns and interpret the rural landscape. However, recently she has also become more interested in painting still life, buildings and interiors. She has evolved a distinctive personal style, which is based on strong design and bright intuitive colours. Occasionally she enjoys pushing her work towards abstraction where the source or subject matter becomes less important than the shapes, tones or colours.
